I truly miss teaching and sharing what I’ve learned over the years. In my role as director, I spend most of my time problem solving, creating and promoting exhibitions, and finding ways to invite the community into our institution. Over the past nine months, I’ve had multiple conversations with local artists about pitching solo exhibitions and sustaining an art practice.
This July 11th-13th, I’m teaching a workshop for artists to aid in the preparation and proposal of an exhibition. After working as an artist and now as a curator, there are so many things an artist can do to help their cause and have appropriate expectations for the outcomes. The workshop will blend short lectures, hands on collaborative work, and real-life problem solving exercises. We will even talk about non-traditional ways of creating exhibitions to engage with your audience outside of the gallery setting.
We’ve limited the number of seats to allow for one-on-one work with artists, so there are only 15 spots available. Also, I wanted this to be affordable for working artists. The workshop is only $100, which includes lunch on Saturday, as well as coffee/refreshments throughout the three days.
If you are a working artist, I want to help you succeed. There is no such thing as too much good art, but we often don’t get to see it. As we march closer to a world shaped by AI and algorithms, in-person art experiences will become more and more vital. I hope to see you on July 11!
